A note from our founder, Sarah

Upcycling is big here at BOXT. We plant a tree for every BOXT we make and we introduced our wine refills in 2023. So for us, upcycling is an important part of who we are. We also have a lot of parents as members and as part of our team, and we know (especially this past year) that we’re all looking for new ways to teach and entertain our kids. 

And let me tell you, I get really into the upcycling projects that are fun and educational for Charlie, my daughter. Nobody likes to help her mom “work” more than she does, so she was over the moon when I asked if she’d like to do a gardening project together for work. Using a few empty BOXT, we planted all the pretty flowers we could find. The best part is that it’s a moveable garden, so as the summer passes and we move into fall, we can shift them around the yard to catch the sun, and then in November we’ll bring the perennials inside for overwintering. 

As we planted, Charlie and I talked about the earth’s orbit and rotation and how it just appears that the sun moves across the sky during the day, and how the earth’s relationship to the sun brings us the seasons. We talked about how that affects the plants that grow and why so many flowers come out in spring. It was so much fun to do a project together and teach her while we “worked”. She’s already asking what we’re doing next.
