Forget the Fancy Winespeak: Here’s How to Describe the BOXT Wine You Love and How to Order Something Similar When You’re Out

We put so much thought and love into making our wines, we’ve come to think they have their own personalities. Some of our wines are laid back, some are ready for anything and some you can drink all day long. We’re like a Myers Briggs or Enneagram of wine, helping you recognize what you like and simplifying the process of talking about it (and ordering more). Because we believe fine wine should be hassle free. You don’t need to be an expert to like what you like and we’re tired of all the pretentious winespeak that intimidates and confuses people. We’re on a mission to change that. We want to help you discover the taste profile of the wine you like, so you can break it down and then drink a glass you love, every single time.

We focus on taste profiles because a varietal out of context can mean a lot of different things. One Chardonnay can taste completely different from another, depending on the soil, the climate of the area, the weather that year, whether the winemaker aged it in oak or not. But unlike a varietal that’s dependent on so many variables, we handcraft each of our six wines to meet taste expectations and profiles. So while no two batches are exactly alike, every batch is crafted to have all the tastes you love in a wine, every single time. That’s the beauty of BOXT.

So tap in and find out how to describe your favorite BOXT profile and what bottles we love to drink when we’re not at home.

Profile One clean, crisp

PROFILE ONE

This is the friend who shows up at your door with drinks, food and a great playlist.  It’s the white you can drink anytime, a go-to for Sunday brunch – and it makes a fantastic spritzer. If you love this wine and want to order something similar when you’re out, describe what you’d like as being a dry, crisp, citrus-oriented white wine that’s not sweet and has a medium-bodied aroma. You could ask for a Sauvignon Blanc, Albarino or Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris. One of the bottles we love is Vie di Romans Dessimis Pinot Grigio 2018 from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.

Profile Two rich butter golden

PROFILE TWO

If you go in for a bigger, golden, buttery and oaky white, you are a match with our Profile Two. This friend brings extra wine to the party, has a big voice, great hair and prefers silk and cashmere. Having dinner and want to order a glass you know you’ll love? Describe what you want as a dry white with hints of oak and a touch of sun-ripened fruit. Or order by varietal and go with a California Chardonnay or a Viognier. One of our favorite bottles is Stags’ Leap Winery Viognier 2018 from Napa Valley.

Profile Three fruity smooth sweet

PROFILE THREE

Our slightly sweeter white for everyone who loves theirs a little fruity with big floral tones and a lovely golden color. This wine wants to get into just a little bit of trouble, but they’re so gorgeous and easy to love, nothing bad ever happens when they’re around. What you like about this wine is its medium to high aroma and acidity, floral and stone fruit notes and a sweet finish. If you like Riesling or Gewurztraminer, you’ll love this wine. When you want to buy a bottle that has a similar taste profile, try Ostertag Les Jardins Riesling 2017 from Alsace, France.

Profile Four ruby, vibrant, soft, dry

PROFILE FOUR

The funny, mellow one who makes everyone feel comfortable and included. Everyone wants to have them around. All. Day. Long. When you want to order something similar to our Profile Four, you can ask for a soft, vibrant and dynamic red with notes of berries and a slight earthy vibe. If this is your go-to glass, you probably also like a good Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais. One of our picks is Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2018 Gamay from Beaujolais, Burgundy, France.

Profile Five bold, smooth, luxurious

PROFILE 5

This is our classic red, driving a 1958 Corvette (top down) while listening to Billie Holiday. If you love this profile and want to order it, as we like to say, “in the wild”, ask for a full-bodied, dry red, with dark fruit flavors, noticeable tannins and a hint of spice. You can also ask for a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Bordeaux. We like DAOU Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 from Paso Robles, Central Coast, California.

Profile Six juicy velvet sweet

PROFILE 6

A little naughty and a little nice, this wine is always up to something. They get you staying out later than you should without you even realizing it. And you always thank them for it later. What is it you love so much about this wine? In a word, it’s luxurious. It’s smooth, silky sweet, jammy and fruit forward with a mouth-watering finish. If you like to drink Malbecs, Zinfandels, Merlots or Petit Syrahs, this is your go-to wine. For a bottle try Luca Old Vine Malbec 2018 Malbec from Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina.
