Thanksgiving Wine and Food Pairings

It's that time of year again! We love fall for all the reasons, and not just because we get to put together Thanksgiving pairings for each of our wines and their similar varietals - both main courses for the big day and the sides, which for some of us are really the main attraction. Green beans, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, stuffing - we need about six Thanksgiving meals to eat all the sides we love. We also love the rituals of the season, pulling out the sweaters and jackets, decorating for fall and the holidays, getting our homes ready for guests and carving out some me time for a quiet glass of wine and a good book amidst all the chaos and stress of the season.

PROFILE ONE
SIMILAR VARIETALS | SAUVIGNON BLANC, GRÜNER VELTLINER, PINOT GRIS, GEWÜRZTRAMINER, ALBARIÑO
herbed stuffing

The crisp, clean citrus notes in these wines are a great counterbalance to the rich, creamy high-fat dishes of Thanksgiving. They will pair well with just about all the dishes on a traditional Thanksgiving table, and will especially love a roasted turkey, fennel and herb stuffing, rich mashed potatoes with lots of cream and garlic or veggies with lots of butter, onions or garlic like these green beans with pearl onions.

With a fuller body than Profile One and its similar varietals, these wines pair wonderfully with creamy sauces, buttery dishes and lighter meats - if you're going untraditional and serving salmon (try the Barefoot Contessa's panko-crusted salmon), stuffed game hens or a honey and lemon glazed chicken, these wines are your perfect pairing.

These wines love spicy, salty and sweet. Our Profile Three with its lightly sweet finish and aromas of flowers, stone fruits and honey pairs well with sausage, apple and herbed stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and your traditional turkey, or if you're going a bit rogue, pair your Profile Three or a riesling with roast duck

Profile Four and its close varietal pinot noir are the traditional choice for Thanksgiving dinner. The subtle earthy notes and aromas of cherry and raspberry and the vibrant and silky texture of our Profile Four make it the perfect pairing for nearly any main course from turkey to duck to slow roasted blood orange salmon and for all of your sides like potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts with bacon, pecans and maple syrup, green beans and stuffing.

Profile Four Five and the other varietals like syrah have a complexity that balances well with all the rich meaty dishes of Thanksgiving like stuffing or these southern candied yams. If you're grilling this Thanksgiving, this is your wine. It will pair wonderfully with grilled meats like duck and turkey and non-traditional Thanksgiving vegetables like roasted eggplant with garlic and herbs, Thanksgiving oyster stuffing or wild mushroom stuffing

These bigger, bolder wines can stand up to rich and complex main dishes like lamb, duck or a rich glazed and lacquered roasted turkey, and they love a satisfying and savory side like mushrooms with caramelized shallots, brussels sprouts with shallots and mushrooms and cranberry apple stuffing

 

PROFILE SIX
SIMILAR VARIETALS | MALBEC, ZINFANDEL, MERLOT, PETITE SYRAH

Profile Six and these other smooth, full bodied, slightly sweeter reds, can take on complex and full flavors of traditional and not so traditional Thanksgiving dinners. They will stand up to sweet, spicy, savory, garlicky dishes like honey glazed spicy turkey, garlic crusted roast leg of lamb, thyme and rosemary mushrooms and this orange zest and vanilla cranberry sauce.

This blush pinot noir rosé and its similar varietals, with their dry freshness and crisp finish can be paired with lighter Thanksgiving fare like salmon, lemon and thyme roasted turkey, simple garlic green beans and herbed stuffing.
